Seasonal Resident Checklist
Make Arrangement for hurricane shutters to be installed during hurricane season (June-November)
Make sure all smoke alarms are working and have fresh batteries
Place timers on indoor lamps
Place phone, cable, and internet service “on vacation”
Wedge dowels in window tracks and sliding doors to prevent burglars from prying them open
Set air conditioners/thermostats at 80 degrees to prevent mold growth
Unplug or turn off circuit breaker to hot water heater to save energy
Discard all perishable items
Unplug electrical appliances and computers susceptible to lightning and power outages
Disconnect electric garage door opener
Turn off main water valve (unless you have an automatic fire-sprinkler system. In that case, turn off the water valves to your washing machine, dishwasher and toilets)
Ask a friend or neighbor to check on your property every week or two while you are away
Check with your insurance agent to make sure your coverage’s are sufficient
Check with your insurance agent to make sure all premiums are paid up and contact information is correct (i.e. -mailing address & phone numbers)
